Let's go RV'ing

Taking an RV vacation can be one of the most memorable and fun ways to spend a vacation. Why not spend those precious weeks you receive off a year and travel the open road? The benefits abound!

Experiencing the beauty of nature in an affordable and flexible way is what awaits you when you choose an RV vacation. If your vacation leads you to the East Coast, then you are in for quite a treat. Let's discover some of the best RV destinations along the East Coast.

Florida

If you are traveling on the East Coast, of course, Florida is always a destination of choice, especially for the adventurer who loves the ocean breeze and warm climates. There are many fabulous RV destinations in the panhandle state, and we will feature 2 of them here.

Key West is one of the most beautiful beach destinations in the country. The area has so much to offer for the sand and sea lover, and it is also home to one of the best RV parks: Boyd's Key West Campground. If you are traveling down Route 1 to the tropical Florida Keys, you will find an RV oasis. The Keys are known for its laid back lifestyle and attitude and Boyd's is no different. The place offers oceanfront campsites, heated swimming pool, salt water fishing, and it's very own Tiki Hut! The campground is located near Duvall Street where you can enjoy a delicious margarita, and take in the sunset celebration in Mallory Square where you can see jugglers, fire-eaters, and tightrope walkers. After all the excitement that the Keys have to offer, choosing Boyd's to spend the night or the week is a great choice.

Point the RV to the West and head over to the Gulf of Mexico where you will come upon the most beautiful, emerald green waters you have ever seen. Visiting the Beaches of South Walton is a must see when planning your Florida RV vacation. Dubbed the Emerald Coast, these beaches boast calm, clear, emerald-colored seas. One of the top campgrounds in the area is by far Topsail RV Resort in Santa Rosa Beach.

RVers say it is one of the top parks in the Florida State Park system because of its layout and gorgeous landscaping. The sites all have the feeling of privacy and seclusion. Trees, shrubs, and flowers are all perfectly arranged and impeccably maintained. It also includes several lakes and one resident alligator! A 15 minute walk through nature brings you to those gleaming beaches that are usually never crowded.

In addition to the beach, take a drive down 30A and through some of the most endearing towns all with their own character such as the laid back Grayton Beach or the pristine and luxurious Seaside which has quaint shops and art galleries. Also, drive a short distance up Rt. 98 to Sandestin and you will find a shopper's paradise with a huge outlet mall.

Virginia

Virginia offers the RVer some wonderful sites to see. The state is filled with rich history as well as gorgeous mountains and lakes. Take the scenic ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and you will find one of the best RV destinations in the state, Rocky Knob Campground, near mile marker 167. There you can bask in some of the best mountainous views along the East Coast as well as discovering wonderful historical sites such as colonial homes, mills, and covered bridges. For entertainment, put on your best pair of dancing shoes for an evening hoe-down and also see the most popular attraction along the way, Mabry Mill.

Maine

If you love participating in a host of outdoor activities and dining on fresh seafood, then Maine should be your destination of choice. From skiing to whale watching, Maine has it all, including a top RV destination: Mt. Desert Narrows Camping Resort in Bar Harbor. It is known as the only national park in New England.

If you want picturesque ocean views, then you should head toward the Mt. Desert Narrows or Narrows Too section of the park. If you love being by the lake, then choose the Patten Pond area that gives visitors access to the 740-acre lake. The town of Bar Harbor offers many adventurous activities including canoeing, hiking, biking, and whale watching. Of course lobsters and Maine go hand in hand, so plan on a July or August vacation to enjoy a succulent lobster dinner.

By now, you can see that from Florida to Maine, the East Coast offers the RVer amazing sites and down home fun. Why not plan a two-week vacation and drive your way up the coast and enjoy it all?

Til next time, happy RVing!
