Welcome to the WebReserv Summer 2011 newsletter. We hope that you are having a great summer.

Judging from the number of reservations going through the system, it looks as you are all very busy. During the last 30 days, we have processed close to 1000 reservations each day.

That's a new reservation every 90 seconds!

In this issue you can read about exciting new features for the WebReserv booking system, including the ability to do "staggered" payments, Groupon codes and how to customize tax rules for custom fields.

Groupon Daily Deals

Groupon, Living Social and other Daily Deals

The WebReserv Booking System now supports daily deals, such as Groupon and Living Social. If you are marketing with daily deals, you can now upload the deal codes into the WebReserv system and it will automatically make sure that the deal codes only are used once.

How to do it

It's easy to create a Groupon or Living Social discount code in the WebReserv system. Go to Setup - Discount Codes and click Add discount code. Select single-use as the discount code type and enter a name which will help you find the discount code again. Copy the list of codes from the daily deal website and paste the codes into the codes field.

Next, enter valid from and valid to dates and reservation from and reservation to dates. The former is the date that the booking is made and the latter is the actual dates of the visit or activity.

Last, but not least, enter the discount percentage or discount amount. For most Groupon codes, this will be a fixed amount equal to the value of the Groupon code.

To test the discount code, click new reservation in the upper right-hand corner, select the product and enter the Groupon code in the discount code field and click calculate. You should now see that the discount amount have been applied. Do not save the reservation as this will mark the discount code as used.

Staggered Payments

The WebReserv booking system now supports staggered payments. This allows you to require a deposit at the time of reservation and an additional amount prior to arrival. In order to use this feature, you need to be set up for automatic payment processing using one of the recommend merchant account providers.

To configure your product(s) for staggered payments, go to Setup – Products & Reservation Rules – Product – Tax/Deposit. Select Custom/Staggered as the deposit type and enter the payment amounts or percentages.

Once you have activated staggered payments, the system will automatically charge the customer card the specified number of days in advance if the reservation is confirmed. The system will not charge automatically if the reservation is pending or cancelled.

Tips & Tricks

Tax settings for custom fields

Previous versions of the WebReserv system used the tax rate for the product(s) to determine tax on custom field charges. To make the system more flexible, and to support instances where the tax on add-on items is different from the products being reserved, custom fields now have their own tax setting.

To set or update the tax rates for your custom fields, go to Setup – Custom Fields..
