Very clean with nice kitchen. Over the back patio and fire pit. Thanks for providing firewood and fire starter. Enjoyed the swimming pond and rope swing into the water. I would recommend putting a stabilizing bar in the canoe as it is very unstable. Staff were very friendly.

 Weekend Getaway

Review by Jodi G. on 8/20/20 9:00 AM

Driving from central Iowa, this was the perfect place to getaway! We loved everything about it. The cabin was well-appointed and CLEAN! I've never stayed in a cabin with soft-close drawers and cupboards that were stocked with everything we needed. We spent the day playing in the swimming pond, sliding down the slide and swinging into the water off the rope swing. We made sure to leave time to use the kayaks in the fishing pond as well. We will definitely be back! Next time, we will need to stay longer. :) Oh, and did I mention, this was an adult weekend getaway? You can enjoy all of these activities with no kids! :)

 Wonderful inspite of outages!

This is the second year my family has rented Cabins on Indian Creek and we will return again if possible! These wonderful clean and well-appointed cabins equipped with just about everything you need for a great vacation worked especially well for our family during the 2020 pandemic. Each family had their own cabin yet we were in a remote scenic area where we could eat, swim, and play together for a week on a vacation from not only quarantine but whatever we will face this Fall. There was a tree that fell on the cable wiring which was no fault of the owners but cabins 3-5 had no cable or internet. Luckily, those of us who work online during vacations had our hot spots on our phones and the teens and kids had to play more games, cards and do more outdoor activities. Thanks so much for our lovely vacation!

 Beautiful Cabins

My husband and I took our kids and their friends for an overnight stay at this cabin. Beautiful cabins with plenty of room! Ponds were amazing and the kids had a blast. We all wish we stayed more than one night and all want to go back soon!

 Quite satisfied

Review by Denny on 7/31/20 7:10 AM

My wife and I were looking for a nice place to take our sweet grand daughter, Hadley, for a little vacation before school starts again in the fall. I happened onto information about Cabins on Indian Creek and decided to try it out. We were not disappointed. Although the weather was pretty crummy, with rain most of the time, Hadley enjoyed the swimming area, even the little fish that kept nibbling at her legs. The cabin (#2) was very nice. It was cozy, but large enough for the three of us. The kitchen was well appointed and even had some spices and other cooking ingredients that we could use. The gas grill on our patio was fantastic. We had steak and shrimp one night and pork steak the next. Hadley admits that we are hard core carnivores! Having a washer and dryer in the cabin was very convenient. There were only two items that I think could have been better. #1, the smaller of the two bedrooms was quite warm, even with the AC set on 70. It seemed that no air was coming from the vent. #2, the AC itself was VERY loud. Since it was so hot and humid, it ran almost constantly and was quite noisy. All in all, we truly enjoyed our stay. Janet is a very gracious hostess and made us feel right at home. We'll probably be back next year.

What a great place to stay. You can easily go into Carbondale for dinners or take advantage of Giant City Lodge. Giant City is so close, you must walk the trails. With the 2 ponds, you can canoe or swim. Makes it easy for families. Great accommodations. I would stay there again.

Social Distance retreat for the family

Review by Dyan on 7/24/20 5:05 AM

We were looking for a place to stay that was off the beaten path so we could socially distance and still enjoy our time together outdoors. This place was a dream come true. Our kids were begging to come back before we even left. Close to town and the Shawnee National Forest, plus plenty to do on site. We LOVED the rope swing. Cabin was fully stocked with anything you would need, right down to dishwasher tabs and spices. We will be back.

We rented The Lodge, the largest cabin available for our large 3 generation family. We were there to celebrate Grandpa turning 70. It is $300 per night and we stayed 3 nights paying $999 for our cabin. The list of amenities were exactly what we were looking for, cable, WiFi, swimming pond, fishing & canoe pond and very close to Shawnee National Park. This was our first time visiting Shawnee or Southern Illinois. We drove 6 hours and arrived at our cabin with our laptop and our Xbox. We planned to use the laptop for researching the best places to visit in Shawnee and where to find food. We brought the Xbox because we were excited as a family to watch the new release of the musical Hamilton. However, when we arrived we were told that our cabin does not have WiFi. We were told that because the lodge sits totally separated from the other cabins, it is 200 ft short of the WiFi signal. Also it was said online that the lodge “is a short walk” to all the amenities. However when we arrived the property manager explained that the trail is never used plus there were a lot of ticks and chiggers right now and so we would need to drive to the office to access the swimming and fishing ponds. We were completely caught off guard. We were now in the middle of southern Illinois with no cell reception or WiFi. We had no way of even making an emergency call. We had no way of finding food or hiking trails. We would certainly not be able to watch the Musical that we planned to watch. We have stayed in cabins twice a year every years for over a decade. We are always careful to choose one that has the modern amenities that we need for our family. We are willing to pay extra to have those amenities. We have never arrived at our rented cabin and then told we don’t have one of the most important amenities that we need when visiting a new area that we have never been. Because of health issues with the grandparents, we would never go to a cabin if we couldn’t make a call if there was an emergency. Grandma has a breathing condition and so we were having her nighttime oxygen machine delivered, but of course we had no way to reach the delivery service. Luckily it had been ordered in advance and the delivery personnel was able to find us and deliver the machine. We were very polite in explaining to the property manager that we were dissatisfied. She sent the owner, who came at 11pm to tell us there was nothing that could be done, but that if we choose to find another place to stay, we could leave with no charge. HOWEVER, we didn’t have internet so we had no way to search for a new place to stay! I went to Walmart and asked the electronic department if there was anything we could buy to solve our issue. He showed me a WiFi device that was $50 and then explained we would need to purchase data cards and that even a $50 card would not give us enough data to watch a musical or any other streaming. So even for $100 our issues could not be solved. After the kids being in quarantine for the last 4 months they were so excited to finally have a new environment to enjoy time together as a family. But with no cell phones or Xbox, they were very surprised to discover that they would have no preplanned movie nights, or video games for 4 days, even though there was a flat screen tv in every room including their bedroom. The only reason I give this cabin 2 stars is because it was a beautiful cabin, very well furnished and the amenities were a lot of fun. But it should be made VERY clear to anyone renting The Lodge (the most largest and most expensive cabin), that it will not have WiFi, and that it is not a short walk to the amenities offered. The Lodge is a totally separate house that is down the road from the office and other cabins that all sit around the ponds. We were not given any discount for our trouble, so be prepared to pay $1000 for a cabin with no WiFi or cell phone reception (unless you have Verizon I was told, but who knows if that is true). I definitely do not recommend renting The Lodge unless you are prepared to totally disconnect. Be sure to bring your own board games or DVD’s because the only thing we found was a deck of cards. And definitely bring lots of bug spray since the place in infested with ticks and chiggers. Also, be sure you have chosen where you want to visit and print directions to and from since without cell reception you have no gps. And be sure to find out where you want to go for food, since you won’t be able to order a pizza or use gps to find the closest take out. You know, basically like it’s the 90’s.

 Pandemic getaway

Review by Kathy on 7/19/20 8:00 AM

A much needed getaway after months of isolation. We rented two cabins. One for our 2 adult kids and our four grandkids (3 yrs-8 yrs) Another cabin for my husband and me and my 85 year old father-in-law. There was something for everyone! Sand, water, fire pit, beautiful sunsets, fishing, kitchens and grills big enough to cook for the family and then send the kids outside to tables for eating. Cabin 2 was easily accessible for my father-in-law and husband who both have trouble walking. Perfect family getaway!

We chose Cabins on Indian Creek as an isolated area to stay while attending a wedding. The cabin was neat and clean and we especially appreciated the kitchen which was stocked with all the necessary items for cooking away from home. The fire pit would have been fun to use but we did not have time in the evening to use it. Beds were comfortable and everything was just perfect. Thank you for maintaining a great place to stay!

Enjoyed our little cabin. It was small and quaint! A perfect little cabin for a weekend getaway! The view of the lake and covered bridge is great! It felt like we really were far from home, out in the country when we really weren't at all!!

 Another great stay!

This was our third stay at Cabins on Indian Creek. The cabin is always very clean and tidy. They have everything you need for a home away from home. The kitchen is well equipped with anything you might need. It's decorated and furnished very nice. We had a two story, so there was plenty of room for the six of us. I highly recommend choosing the Cabins on Indian Creek for your vacation in Carbondale!
